The Kybalion
In brief
The Kybalion, published in 1908 by the anonymous Three Initiates, is a foundational text of Hermetic philosophy that presents itself as a study of the ancient teachings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. It holds that the Universe is mental in nature and that seven governing Principles order every plane of existence, from the material to the spiritual.

About This Book
There exists, beneath the surface noise of the ordinary world, a body of teaching so ancient that its attributed author, Hermes Trismegistus, was already a legend when the pyramids cast their first shadows. The Kybalion is not a book in the common sense of that word. It is a threshold. Published in 1908 under the modest veil of "Three Initiates," it distills the Hermetic tradition into seven axiomatic principles that do not merely describe reality but constitute it. To read with true attention is to begin noticing, perhaps for the first time, the architecture of existence that has always surrounded you.
The seven Hermetic Principles, Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender, are not metaphors. They are operative laws, as exacting in their domain as mathematics is in its own. The Principle of Mentalism declares that "The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental," a statement that reorients every subsequent inquiry a student undertakes. The Principle of Correspondence, enshrined in the axiom "As above, so below; as below, so above," offers the sincere seeker a master key: understanding any one plane of existence becomes a lantern for illuminating all others. Each principle, studied in sequence, is a successive turn of that key.
At the living heart of this teaching lies Mental Transmutation, the Hermetic art of consciously altering the conditions of one's inner and outer life by working directly upon the substance of mind and vibration. Where the uninitiated see fixed circumstances, the student of these principles perceives a spectrum of possibility, polarities capable of being shifted, rhythms capable of being mastered. This is the great work the Kybalion points toward, not the acquisition of power for its own sake, but the deliberate refinement of the self into an instrument aligned with Universal Law.
The path into this text is not passive. The Three Initiates themselves warn that Hermetic wisdom has always been transmitted to the few who were prepared to receive it, and that the book would find its way to those ready for its instruction. Approach it, therefore, not as a casual reader but as an initiate at the entrance of a long corridor. Each re-reading will yield a different depth, for the principles here are not exhausted by understanding; they are practiced, inhabited, and ultimately embodied through a lifetime of conscious inner work.

You already possess the one faculty capable of reshaping every circumstance of your life, yet most people direct it by accident rather than by will. Neville Goddard restores imagination to its rightful throne, not as a pleasant diversion but as the very mechanism by which the universe organises itself around the inner life of a person. The question this work leaves open is the one you will carry long after the final page: what are you, even now, silently assuming to be true?
