What is Citrinitas?

Citrinitas, Latin for 'yellowing,' is the third of the four major stages in the alchemical Magnum Opus, following Nigredo (blackening) and Albedo (whitening), and preceding Rubedo (reddening). Symbolically, it represents the dawning of solar consciousness, the infusion of golden light into the purified white matter of Albedo. This stage signifies the intellectual and spiritual awakening, where the alchemist begins to grasp universal truths and the nature of the Philosopher's Stone. Psychologically, Citrinitas corresponds to the emergence of rational thought and the integration of conscious awareness, moving beyond the initial purification and emotional clarity.
